Upon hearing that I hadn’t accepted the offer immediately, Irene Scott, Head of HR at McKinsey, said in a slightly indignant manner: “We believed you would have given it some thought beforehand!” 

I had done all the interviews, and even flew to London where Dr. Cabot, a dire psychologist, tested me for an entire day. I had to answer a never-ending stream of questions, amongst those some rather abstruse ones, such as: “How can you live with the conscience of being likened to Hitler’s son?” I was quite tired, having gone through test after test, as Dr. Cabot asked all of a sudden: “Imagine that a tribe invents some foodstuff which causes its members to become twice as tall and twice as strong as members of other tribes. What would be the consequences?”

In celebration of his 80th birthday, last month LID Spain paid tribute to Nobel Prize winner Mario Vargas Llosa, with the production of a new book of 80 testimonials from international figures in business, politics and society, who have worked with the legend through his glittering career. Produced in collaboration with The International Foundation for Freedom, this new book is now available in print and digital format, and was delivered at the gala dinner at which Vargas Llosa was accompanied by Isabel Preysler, family, friends and 400 other figures from the world of politics and society.
