This week on the LID Publishing Blog, we will be hearing from some of the inspirational women we work with and finding out their thoughts on this year’s theme #BalanceforBetter. Today, we hear from Sanyin Siang, author of The Launch Book.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you in terms of Sharing Knowledge?
None of us succeeds alone. We are able to launch through life effectively because of the generosity of mentors, cheerleaders, those who have gritty courage to tell us the truth, share their wisdom, identify our strengths, and help us refine our efforts. Hence, we have a responsibility to help those around us be their best and most effective selves. International Women’s Day is a celebration of those who have paved the way forward for us, those who are engaged in sharing their wisdom with us today, and those who come after us.
Why do you think it is important to have a balance of men and women in business teams?
Teams are more effective than individuals in moving ideas forward. In working with others who are different than us, we learn new ways of approaching problems, gain new insights, and in the process, also discover new things about ourselves. When we have both men and women on a team, we are better able to imagine, hedge against the risks of a rapidly changing world, and leverage the new and emerging opportunities.
