We celebrated the launch of Jonathan Geldart’s recent book, Inside the Middle Kingdom last night at Blackwell’s on High Holborn.
Inside the Middle Kingdom is a unique book which contains a collection of 50 personal stories from modern China.
Jonathan is a writer, adviser and speaker on the cultural and business aspects of China. He has been visiting, working in China and collecting insights into the mysterious middle kingdom in the process for over seven years.
The launch brought together an engaged group of people with a genuine interest in China. Jonathan’s friend/agent, Paul Gordon started the evening by introducing him and kicked off a Q & A session.
Jonathan shared his reason for writing the book which was purely because he finds Chinese history, culture and language compelling. To feed his interest he initially started reading Chinese classics and began talking to as many people as he could. He said: “People look at China with suspicion. China has been hiding away and has lost it’s understanding in the West. You have to understand more about this amazing country and and people.”
The book was titled Inside the Middle Kingdom because Jonathan truly believes that China is the centre of the world.
To wrap up the evening Jonathan went onto doing an exclusive book signing for his guests and as a token of gratitude he gave away ‘The wisdom of tea’ which you can read all about in the first chapter of the book!
