Ahead of the Business Book Awards 2020 Gala Dinner on the 23rd of March, we are introducing you to the authors of the shortlisted books for this year’s ceremony. This week we are talking to Neil Francis, author of Positive Thinking, shortlisted for the category: ‘Personal Development‘.
I am the author of four books ‘Changing Course’ (2013), ‘The Entrepreneur’s Book’ (2018) ’Positive Thinking’ (2019) and ‘Inspired Thinking’ (2020). I also am currently the Chairman of the digital agency Pogo Studio and I am on the Board of the software solutions company, Company Net. I am also a trustee of the charity Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland and also a trustee of Sporting Memories, a charity which supports people with dementia.
Why I wrote my book
During the last 75 years commonly accepted positive thinking philosophies which have permeated Western society claim that mere thinking positive things and visualization are the keys to material success and achievement. It is presented that success is achieved by blocking these negative thoughts and repeating positive affirmations. I wanted to write a book that provided a different, better and more realistic understanding of positive thinking in order to open up new possibilities and enhance personal development and well-being.
What value the book offers
Part 1, Rethinking positive thinking, covers the themes of acceptance, purpose, mindset, optimism, strengths, choices, gratitude, negativity, failure and resilience. Part 2, Opening yourself to new possibilities, I focus on values, imagination, dreaming, creativity, goals, identity and emotions. By thinking positively about these core themes and putting in place the ideas, insights and thoughts highlighted in each chapter, the reader will find a different, but a very rewarding, type of positive thinking. This will help them to open up themselves to new possibilities for personal development and wellbeing.
What you have gained from publishing the book
Throughout the 17 chapters in my book I have tried to show the key themes in thinking positively and how this could enrich anyone’s business life with new possibilities. The business community have been very positive in their response to my unique view on positive thinking. I have been spoken at major business conferences and events, given webcasts to European audiences, ask to join two companies as a Non-Executive Director and written numerous articles for a variety of business publications.
Learn more about Positive Thinking
Traditionally, the positive thinking philosophy that has permeated Western society advocates that you will achieve whatever you want purely by thinking positive thoughts. On the contrary, at its best, this practice results in success for some individuals, but overall, for the majority it does not!
This book will re-define the true meaning of positive thinking for the 21st century and show that there is more to it then we know. The author, Neil Francis, will explain that it is actually our motivating ability that enables us to create new possibilities. It is then up to each individual to decide which opportunities are achievable and realistic and – therefore – worth seizing. Positive Thinking explores the ways of creating new possibilities so that you make the right decisions to live a more balanced, meaningful and contented life
