The book event for Wake Up and Smell the Coffee by Simon Mac Rory was held on the evening of Tuesday 26th June at WeWork in Devonshire Square London.
There was a panel discussion between Simon Mac Rory, Dr Pat Gilbert from IBM, Deborah McGovern from Belbin Associates and Dr Jonathon Pinto from Imperial College London on teamwork and team management.
The event was incredibly well attended by Simon’s work colleagues and contacts as well as family members and friends. With every seat full, the discussion began with conflict within teams and its role.
“Conflict at low levels is key, as long as it is managed properly”
The panel also discussed team sizes, The World Cup and how we can learn from sports teams, as well as team meetings and appraisal.
The Brown Bear Coffee Company also kindly offered their delicious coffee samples to the attendees at the event.
About the book
The deconstruction of the traditional workplace hierarchy, the abandonment of performance appraisal, the impact of millennials, all point to a substantial revival of teams and teamwork for the first time in more than 20 years. Leading companies are pushing towards a team-centric model. However, for many others team development remains ad hoc as they fail to recognize that teams hold the answers to increased effectiveness.
Delivering improved team effectiveness across an organization does not have to be time-consuming. The Team Diagnostic Profiler (TDP) is a methodology and process that is easy to use, self-administering and can deliver 10 to 20% improvement in team effectiveness when deployed in a corporate team strategy. This book is based on the TDP methodology and the years of research completed by the author.
