Dr. Rainer Zitelmann’s latest book The Wealth Elite delves into what makes the wealthy tick in a groundbreaking study. The book consists 45 interviews with wealthy individuals and the psychology of the super rich.
The wealthy and the growth of self-made millionaires is an increasing point of interest and curiosity. According to a study in 2015 among billionaires, self-made wealth grew globally from 43% – 66% between 1995 to 2014.
So what makes the super rich so rich?
The Wealth Elite goes into a huge amount of detail about all aspects of the interviewees lives. Interestingly, the formative years of the wealth elite had a big impact on their success in later life.
The assumption that high-level academics are prerequisite for success is debated. On the one hand, their qualifications were superior to those of the same age group across the population. However, the majority of their education performance was ‘average’. Another notable section of the book is regarding the role of sports in the wealth elite’s lives. Of the 45 interviewees, 23 were competitive or recreational athletes. It is worth noting that most of these were not team sports, but individual disciplines.
Some interviewees expressed that they were shaped by competitive sports and applied these skills in their professional lives.

About the Author
Dr. Rainer Zitelmann holds doctorates in History and Sociology. He is the author of 21 books. After working as a historian at the Free University Berlin, he later served as section head at the daily newspaper Die Welt. In 2000, he founded his own company, which he subsequently sold in 2016. Today he lives in Berlin as an investor and publicist. The material in this book is based on his second doctoral dissertation.
