LID Authors win three awards at the Business Book Awards 2023.
The book Leader As Healer, written by leadership development expert Nicholas Janni, published by LID Publishing, won the Business Book of the Year Award 2023, last night on 16 May, at the Business Book Awards Gala Dinner. It was awarded the title of overall winner by the Business Book Awards Head Judge, Jacq Burns, who selected Janni’s book from the winners in all 14 categories. She said the title is ‘a transformational read that every leader of today needs.’
This outstanding book was recognised among 300 nominated books and more than 100 shortlisted titles. Leader As Healer also won in its title category, Leadership Book of the Year. Leader As Healer presents a new approach to leadership that is designed to reawaken the innate human capacities – physical and emotional, individual, and transpersonal. Leader as Healer focuses on such human qualities that have been recently forgotten because of the never- ending chase of economic growth and profit-maximization. It argues that it’s finally the time to embrace our emotions as leaders.
The author Nicholas Janni was overjoyed with winning this prestigious business book award and says: “I am deeply honoured to receive this award. And I take it as a very strong affirmation of the work of Healing and Awakening that more and more of us are bringing to the corporate world and beyond. The world is terribly broken. We urgently need leaders who embody deep, soulful, heartfelt Presence – bringing service to the greater whole as their primary commitment.”
Martin Liu, LID’s COO & Publisher says: “We are delighted for Nicholas Janni and so proud of his book, Leader As Healer. This award demonstrates the importance of Nicholas’ work and thinking, and why it is highly relevant to today’s managers and leaders. One of the main themes of the night of the Business Book Award was the responsibility of authors and publishers to guide and educate the business world. Nicholas’ book undoubtedly does that.”
Panos, by Panos Papadopoulos with Jack Yan, was Highly Commended in the Business Journey Book category. Panos is a rags-to-riches story about the success of a Greek man who has followed his passion to build a hugely successful multi-million-dollar fashion empire. From poverty, where his parents worked in a foundry, to a life filled with glamour, royalty, and Hollywood stars, Panos Papadopoulos has never had a quiet moment. In his autobiography, he tells his story vividly, from his proud roots in Greece, working as a guard in one of Sweden’s toughest prisons, to creating one of the most famous swimwear labels in Scandinavia.
Three other LID titles were also finalists on the evening and were: Great Networking by Alisa Grafton in the Business Self-Development Book Category; The Bullshit-Free Book by Kevin Duncan in the Short Business Book Award Category; and Onlife Fashion by Philip Kotler, Giuseppe Stigliano and Riccardo Pozzoli in the Specialist Book Category.
Martin Liu, LID’s COO & Publisher, says: “We had the most amazing evening at the Business Book Awards 2023 and we are absolutely delighted and proud of the awards our authors won. I would like to also congratulate all of LID’s finalists and say how proud we are of the books we published together.”
The three big awards come as LID Publishing celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Since 1993, LID has made it its mission to share knowledge – to communicate its authors’ and corporate clients’ expertise, ideas, brand, thinking and story throughout the business world. LID operates under four key values – freedom, equal opportunity, entrepreneurship and rational decision-making – that have allowed it to expand globally, where today LID operates from six countries around the globe, and is proud to work with hundreds of thought leaders in the business world.

The book outlines both a theoretical and practical map towards a new form of leadership, one that embodies the “skill, heart, and wisdom” that the current moment demands. The pathway Janni describes is one of integration and restoration, which is designed to reawaken the innate human capacities – physical and emotional, individual and transpersonal – that were previously discarded and forgotten during our perilous journey towards profit-maximization and “infinite” economic growth. It offers a way to grow ourselves as leaders and to heal our organizations.
This is a rags-to-riches story about a man who came from a Greek village, born to a father with three years’ schooling and an illiterate mother, whose down-to-earth Greek values formed the foundation of an entrepreneur who went on to build a multi-million-dollar fashion empire. Today, Panos Emporio is one of the most established luxury swimwear brands in the world, being the choice of celebrities and royal families amongst others.
